Search Engine

Search Engine

Submitting your site to search engines is becoming increasingly complex and expensive for businesses expecting detailed results.  This page is a summary of the different options available in order to gain specific users your business wishes to attract.

Dmoz Open Directory Porject (www.dmoz.com)

This is an organization that provides commercial and non commercial site submission for free.  Sites submitted to dmoz will be searchable by some search engines like Google.

Overture (www.overture.com)

Overture is the company that will get you to the top of the page for most powerful search engines.  When you do any type of search on Yahoo or Google you'll find a "sponsor matches" section at the top of the page,  you must go through Overture to  get in this section.  Overture allows you to bid on sponsor matched positions by paying for each click-through to your web site.

This is by far the most powerful marketing tool on the internet for generating traffic quickly. If you bid the highest amount in a category, you are guaranteed the top position on many powerful search engines.

Yahoo (www.yahoo.com)

Yahoo stopped offering free site submission for commercial services December 28, 2001.  They charge a recurring annual fee of $ 299.00 for sites not including adult content and an annual fee of $ 600.00 for sites including adult content.   Registering a site with yahoo gives any commercial business a big marketing advantage.  Webmaintainer will offer advise on category placement and web page settings for optimal performance of the yahoo product.

Google (www.google.com)
Google uses dmoz (listed above) as a search for sites other than their sponsored matches.  The top part of their site uses overture (listed above) for sponsor matches and then has a column to the right for sponsor matches internal to Google.com  The internal sponsor program uses the same technique as overture, but can be cheaper (depending on current rates) to advertise to users using Google.
